 Academic delegation from Sharjah University discusses cooperation with SAIF ZONE


​HE Saud Salim Al Mazrouei, Director of the Sharjah Airport International Free Zone (SAIF ZONE) recently received a high-level academic delegation from the University of Sharjah at the Free Zone headquarters to discuss mutual aspects for cooperation.

Dr. Ali Obaid Al Zaabi, assistant Vice Chancellor of Finance and Administrative Affairs, and Mohamed AlKendi, Director of the Activities Department and several officials of the administrative department were among the members of the visiting delegation. They were received in the presence of Raed Bukhatir, Deputy Commercial Director, Ali Al Mutawa, Public Relations Officer and Khaled Al Yafei, Administration Officer.

Welcoming the members of the delegation, Saud Al Mazrouei presented an overview of the evolution of SAIF ZONE under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah and reviewed various aspects of the achievements and components of the economic fundamentals of the Free Zone. Al Mazrouei also touched upon the expansion plans of the Free Zone that will include new buildings and offices.

During the discussions, Raed Bukhatir gave an insight into the number of companies registered at the Free Zone, the various activities they undertake and a brief on the methods of exporting and importing goods into the country.

Speaking on behalf of the University of Sharjah, Dr. Ali Al Zaabi discussed the chief working processes of the academic institutions at the University. He revealed how the University of Sharjah has long recognized that mutual cooperation and networking are necessities of a global economy. He detailed the University's quest to expand the horizons of cooperation agreements by interfacing with industry and government and to work collaboratively towards common goals such as promoting a culture of research and innovation to benefit humanity.

Believing that a dynamic and responsive education sector is one of the most important factors in the development, progress and overall success of a country, the delegation members discussed several aspects of cooperation with senior officials of SAIF ZONE in different fields such as research in science, economic, chemical and biological industries, as well as applications in information technology and computers.

The delegation also visited several large companies at SAIF ZONE to learn more about the nature of their work and identify channels to guide the students to these companies for on-field training. The university officials also sought the guidance and support of the Free Zone for ensuring the success of creating a knowledge-based community.
