14/06/2015

A high level delegation from the Sharjah Airport International Free Zone (SAIF Zone), and the Hamriyah Free Zone Authority, HFZA, yesterday participated in the 9th edition of the World Chambers Congress, being held in Turin, Italy, to seek opportunities for trade relations with Italian companies.

Speaking to the Italian News Agency, Agi, Saud Salim Al Mazrouei, Director of HFZA and SAIF Zone, said, "The UAE is one of the most interesting countries for Italian exports in the Arab world, which is shown in the fact that the Italian Industry and Commerce Office opened a branch in the Emirate of Sharjah in 1999."

During the event, the Director of HFZA received the Mayor of Turin, Piero Fassino, and the President of the Turin Chamber of Commerce, Vincenzo Ilotte, who both visited the Sharjah Free Zone stand.

Al Mazrouei said that HFZA has a strategic location near the port with thousands of industrial activities, including 56 Italian companies, while SAIF Zone, which is located close to the airport, is more suitable for small and medium sized enterprises and hosts around 6,700 companies, 86 of which are Italian. "I hope that the growing interest in the UAE will lead to an increase in investments from Italian companies, notably in the machinery sector and the food industry," said Al Mazrouei.

Al Mazrouei went on to say that Sharjah is considered the industrial and cultural capital of the UAE and has 33% of the companies in the country. "We want to encourage businessmen interested in other markets, such as the Middle East, but also Africa and Asia," he said.

Al Mazrouei told Agi that currently, German, French and English companies are the most active in the area, but, "We are strongly interested in attracting Italian small and medium sized enterprises."
